Staying up to date in the field
Attending the IWL 2013 at Harvard University was intellectually and academically very gratifying. As a professor of English and Cultural Studies at Ibn Zohr University in Morocco, I was in a pressing need to catch up on the developments in academic research in the field of World Literature (critical pedagogy, curricula, new trends and theories…)
To my great satisfaction, the program was rich and varied, the choice of the guest lecturers was valuable; The seminars and affinity group meetings gave me the opportunity to meet scholars and researchers from all over the world, and to have thought-provoking discussions with them about key issues in world literature, its circulation and pedagogy, and about the tremendous work being done in this field.
It was also a real honor and pleasure to attend seminars led by scholars like Susan Bassnett and Karen Thornber. The resources at Widener Library were extremely helpful. Indeed, the whole experience was pertinent and worthwhile. It helped shape many of the approaches, critiques and arguments in the essays and book chapters I have published so far. I am looking forward to attending another one of the future IWL sessions.
